September 2023
This end of September had perfect weather for a wonderful biking weekend in the cradle of Swiss history, enveloped by autumnal colors.
I also took the opportunity to visit a dear friend in Unterägeri, thus combining two bike routes (with 99:08) and splitting the journey .
Although 9:07 starts in Zug (see also 9:06), I avoided few km of city roads by taking the train directly to Baar.
So off I go finding my way out of Baar and into the 9:07 path along the river Lorze, which flows from the Ageri to the Zuger Lake.

The first landmark worth stopping for, if time allows, are the limestone Caves of Höllgrotten, with mini lakes and beautiful stalagmites, right next to the path and close to Baar ( hoellgrotten.ch ).
But I move forward in my very long journey and coast the river Lorze and its waterworks, along a quiet natural shaded terrain.

Here an old wooden covered bridge stands next to the vertiginous stoned arched Lorzentobel Bridge on the Lorze.

Arrived at Unterägeri I took in the beauty of the little Lake Ageri/Agerisee, nestled between mountains.

From here, the path goes along the entire north side of the lake, until Morgarten at the far end of the lake.
We are deep in the cradle of Swiss National history. In fact, in 1315, Morgarten hosted a famous battle between the young Confederation of Schwyz, Uri and Unterwalden against the invading Austrians, in what is now considered the first battle for Swiss freedom.

Past Sattel, the road goes through some important uphills, reaching pristine landscapes and a vast area of protected mires (wetlands with peat formation).

The end of this Section is marked by a nice descent into the town of Einsiedeln, which is dominated by its enormous Benedictine Monastery (18th century Baroque), a major European pilgrimage site.

Finished the Section, I then turned around towards Zug, but this time via the more hilly HeartRoute 99:08 (see link), for a day total of 70km and 1,200m elevation gain.
