Route 7: Section 3 (Saignelégier 978m–La Chaux-de-Fonds 1013m)

Stats from SwitzerlandMobility.ch (veloland.ch/en/routes/route/etappe/etappe-01598.html): 36km long, height difference Saignelégier–La Chaux-de-Fonds 540m (500m in the opposite direction). Their site has the full profile.

I biked this Section on the same day of the previous one so I was pretty tired, although the height difference was not that bad. I had to make though a brief stop at a cafè to recharge my battery a little, and to put some fuel into my system ….

This Section too is mostly along hilly plateaux. It is however less isolated than the previous part.

At the end of the trip, the suburbs of La Chaux-de-Fonds appear
suddenly on the horizon, with tall buildings like mushrooms in the midst of peaceful hills and the mooing of cows…. It is almost surreal.

I was too exhausted to explore La Chaux-de-Fonds (myswitzerland.com/en-ch/la-chaux-de-fonds-highlights.html).
Historically, this town is known as the world capital of the watch industry (Musée International de l’Horlogerie), the birthplace of the architect Le Corbusier (and here is “La maison blanche”), and the birthplace of Louis Chevrolet. Here, started also the fir tree style of the Art Nouveau
